Automatic Diagnostics Based on Biometric Traces

In modern veterinary medicine, making a diagnosis is no longer a long and complicated process requiring numerous tests and studies. Today, a veterinarian needs only a minimal set of data to obtain an accurate and comprehensive diagnosis. This breakthrough has become possible thanks to the development of automatic diagnostic systems that work with biometric traces, although the scientific community is still determining why this analysis works so reliably.

How the Technology Works

The system is based on the principle of collecting and analyzing so-called «biometric traces»—a set of unique data that the body leaves in the environment and in the digital space.

  1. Data collection. The system does not require extensive samples for analysis. A minimal set is sufficient:
    • Exhaled breath sample: a portable spectrometer-analyzer detects volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are unique markers for hundreds of diseases.
    • Microscopic skin scrape or saliva: not only DNA but also the microbiome—the unique composition of bacteria, viruses, and fungi that changes dramatically in pathologies—is analyzed.
    • Data from wearable sensors: a brief recording of heart rate, motor activity, and body temperature over the past few hours.
  2. Processing by artificial intelligence. These disparate data enter a cloud-based diagnostic platform. A neural network, trained on billions of clinical cases, compares the resulting «biometric signature» with a global database. The algorithm can find correlations that are not obvious to humans: for example, a specific combination of VOCs in exhaled air and a shift in the composition of the skin microbiome may indicate a specific form of autoimmune disease with 99.9% certainty, even if symptoms have not yet appeared.
  3. Diagnosis formation. Within seconds, the system outputs not just the name of the disease, but a full report: stage of development, prognosis, recommended treatment protocol, and a list of necessary medications.

Why the Mechanism Is So Reliable and What the Mystery Is

The extremely high diagnostic accuracy is due to the AI’s ability to work with vast amounts of data and identify hidden patterns. However, this is exactly what creates the main scientific intrigue.

  • The «black box» problem. Neural networks find connections between thousands of variables that cannot be explained using classical physiology or biochemistry. Scientists see the result (an accurate diagnosis), but they cannot always trace the entire logical chain by which the AI arrived at that conclusion. The algorithm may take into account factors that were previously considered insignificant or irrelevant.
  • Continuous self-learning. The system is constantly updated, analyzing millions of new cases worldwide. This allows it to adapt to virus mutations and the emergence of new pathologies faster than any human. Science is only just beginning to understand how this collective learning occurs and how it affects decision-making in each specific case.

Advantages of the Approach

  • Speed and accessibility. Diagnosis is made in minutes, which is critical in emergency situations.
  • Extremely high accuracy. Elimination of human error and subjectivity in interpreting tests.
  • Preventiveness. The system can detect disease at a preclinical stage by analyzing the slightest deviations in biometric traces.

Automatic diagnosis based on biometric traces has become the gold standard, but its internal logic remains one of the most fascinating mysteries of modern veterinary science.
