Futurating turns three: from an idea about the future to a space where it is shaped together

On August 8, 2026, the digital platform Futurating turned three years old. During this time, the idea of a space for talking about the future has grown into a developing platform where people propose postulates and images of the future, discuss them, evaluate them, and together make sense of possible changes.

Futurating’s birthday is considered to be August 8, 2023 — a date recorded in the project’s history as its starting point.

How Futurating began

Egor Komyagin’s first direct encounter with the future project took place on August 1, 2023, when the author of the idea, Valery Mityakin, asked him to help check the layout and design of the board game “Futurating: What Will Happen?”.

And on August 16, 2023, Valery wrote to Egor:

“Egor, could you spare me some time around 2 p.m.? I would like to discuss one big project with you.”

A Zoom meeting took place the same day. Valery described the project idea and shared text materials, images, and other developments. It became clear that it was no longer just about a board game, but about a much larger concept connected to the future, people’s ideas, and their discussion and evaluation.

This conversation marked the beginning of the practical history of creating digital Futurating.

Three years of development

Futurating is developing almost daily. New tools and formats are appearing that make it possible not just to talk about the future, but to collect, organize, and make sense of different visions of it.

Map, Dictionary, and Analytics of the Future

One of the directions was “Map of Russia’s Future”, where images and ideas are considered in connection with the country’s regions. Dictionary of the Future collects concepts and phenomena describing an emerging reality. And “Analytics of the Future” helps find recurring themes and early signals of possible change in community materials.

The mechanics of collective evaluation are also developing: authors propose postulates and images of the future, and participants discuss and evaluate them according to several criteria. Tools for authors are being improved, and new research, surveys, interviews, special projects, and artificial intelligence capabilities are appearing.

Thus, Futurating is gradually becoming a digital environment where individual ideas can be assembled into a more coherent picture of the future, and where it is possible to observe how that picture changes over time.

Without its authors, Futurating would be just technology. Thanks to the people who publish postulates and images of the future, read, vote, debate, and complement each other’s ideas, the platform is becoming a living space for collective reflection on the future.

In August 2026, there is a digital platform where people propose their visions of the future, discuss and evaluate them, explore emerging trends, and create new ideas.

On August 8, 2023, Futurating gained its starting point. On August 8, 2026, it already has a history.

Ahead are new tools, analytical formats, projects, partnerships, and, most importantly, new ideas and new authors.
